Trench Coats to Invest in for Spring

As I write this it is currently storming outside of my window, but I’m hoping the brief balmy spring weather we had a couple of weeks ago returns by the time it is actually officially spring - in less than 10 days! As it is nearly spring, I’ve been thinking a little more about my wardrobe - especially now that I’m also nearing the end of writing my book! One of my spring staples is the trench - it’s also what I consider an essential piece of my ‘Parisian wardrobe’. I was recently asked by Who What Wear UK for a couple of my French wardrobe staples and I did indeed send over a sentence on the trench. I cite the trench time and time again as it’s such a classic! And this is not the first time I’m writing about it here either - the last time was in 2018 here - testament to just how timeless it is. So if I were to advise you to invest in one piece this season, it would be a good trench coat. If you don’t have one, the beauty with this purchase is that you will have it for years, so it is also worth spending a little more money on a good quality style that will last.

It’s my go-to coverup in spring and the best thing is that it can be layered. Even if the temperatures haven’t quite yet risen, you can wear a heavy knit underneath. I recently ordered this beige overcoat version, which although not quite a trench - as it doesn’t have the signature belt or lapels - is, as I like to think, a modern twist on the traditional style and so far it’s slotted perfectly into my wardrobe. Plus it’s very reasonably priced!

The trench is also incidentally one of the wardrobe pieces that I’m going to be writing about in my book, PRACTISING PARISIENNE that is coming out in September in the UK! I’ve delved into the trench’s humble beginnings and what (and who) made it so famous. If you’re interested, you can pre-order it now in the UK here, here and here.

My Picks

I’m wearing trench (black version here) and striped jumper (similar here) by Arket, jeans by Goldsign (similar here), boots by Acne and bag by Yuzefi.
