An edit of the best striped pieces for your home and wardrobe

It will probably come as no surprise to read that I love stripes and that I love to wear them and have them in my home. I wore the chocolate brown and white striped shirt in the photo on repeat in Egypt. (Here’s similar) and as soon as the temperature rises a little more, I will be bringing it out again. And as I sit here writing this article, I’m wearing the Arket cream and navy striped jumper that has also recently become a wardrobe staple.

I’m not actually a huge fan of pattern, and think it should be used sparingly - in the wardrobe and at home - but stripes I will happily wear again and again, and am constantly on the lookout for striped items to add to our space. They make a perfect unfussy pattern if you lean a little more towards the minimalist side of design, but add a bit of interest. They are a very unpretentious, laid back kind of pattern - probably why they are so associated with holidays. They certainly have that on vacation feeling about them - think striped decked chairs, parasols on Italian beaches in Positano and beach towels. I’m a big advocate for creating a home that makes you feel like you’re on holiday and stripes will help you do this.

And I do think that everyone should own a slightly oversized striped shirt (think more borrowed from the boys than looking like you’re going to the office) as it’s so versatile and looks just as good over jeans and chinos as it does with a pair of shorts. Plus it makes a great beach cover-up for summer. It’s also a very classic, but timeless French pattern that was brought into fashion’s mainstream by Coco Chanel herself. Basically you can’t really go wrong with stripes.

So here’s my edit of the best striped pieces for your home and wardrobe, from shirts, jumpers and dresses to bedding, glassware and cushions.
