ESSENTIAL GLASSWARE PIECES FOR YOUR HOME

For the last six or seven years I’ve been collecting ceramics. Any new place or country I visit I always keep my eye out for something I can bring home. Since I moved to my new apartment I’ve also started investing in good glassware - everyday items as well as ones that are more for display purposes only. Glassware is one of the things that certainly feels extra when you first start shopping for home items. Sure, you’ll get a set of highball glasses for water, maybe some tumblers, and then some stemmed glasses for wine. Who needs more, right? Well, if you’re a wine enthusiast you might want to look into how the shape of the glass affects what’s inside it. There’s a reason why red wine glasses are typically larger than those destined for white, and why champagne is served in a flute. To me, there’s something elegant about serving a beautiful wine in the right vessel. I find carafes necessary too; you can let your wine aerate or use it for water instead.

A good tumbler is another multi-use vessel, perfect for short drinks, water, and even layered desserts. Having a set around will prove much more useful that you can imagine. To start your glassware collection, I recommend purchasing a carafe, a set of stemmed wineglasses, and either tumblers or highball glasses for water and other drinks.

Glassware prices vary quite a bit and I own a mixture of differently priced ones; crystal feels the most elegant in your hand, but it is fragile (avoid putting it in the dishwasher) while glass is more durable and perfect fo everyday and parties.
