FIVE PARISIAN WARDROBE BASICS

After my recent Sunday Q&A - you can find it and recent ones in my highlights section on my Instagram - I’ve decided to create an article with my top picks for what I think are the basics of a Parisian wardrobe. This isn’t my complete definitive list - I am working on that, but these are a few key items that build the foundation for a great capsule wardrobe collection and will undoubtedly make your life easier when choosing what to wear in the morning.

I love clothes and trends, but on an everyday basis - mainly to save time when I have to be out the door fast for a meeting or even when I’m running errands and don’t want to look like I’ve been dragged through a hedge - I look to these essentials. I learnt a very valuable lesson about not going out and about looking like a slob from Iyanla Vizant during her ‘You Matter’ Super Soul Conversation with Oprah. (Incidentally you should listen to it, especially if you need a pick me up). Anyway I digress… I’m drawn to basics as they’re easy to throw on, but still make me look like I’ve made an effort. So here are my top five. I’d love to know what you would add to the list in the comment section below!

THE GOOD QUALITY T SHIRT:

Nothing beats a great tee - I like to think this is one of the Parisians secret weapon as it is the easiest item to through on when you want to look like you’ve made effort effortlessly. Size up so you can tuck it comfortably into high-rise jeans and layer over with a couple of cute pendants.

THE BUM-ENHANCING JEANS:

Unless you have a tomboy-ish figure or are model built, I will always suggest a high-rise straight-legged jean. This style is by far the most flattering on a woman’s figure as the straight leg balances out the hips, makes your legs appear longer and enhances your derrière!

THE BLAZER:

To avoid looking like you’ve borrowed a lawyer’s suit jacket, select an oversized style which is still smart, but contemporary and on-trend.

THE MID-HEEL PUMP:

A mid-heel pump will instantly elevate a pair of jeans. Pick a neutral colour that you can wear with everything.

THE EVERYDAY BAG:

The key to the everyday bag is to make-sure it’s big enough to fit all your essentials, but also a little more interesting or quirky in style so you won’t get bored wearing it most days. Also pick a neutral colour that will pair with all your outfits.
