Spring things...

I know that spring isn’t officially here for another month, but what with the lovely sunshine we’ve been having the past couple of weeks, I’m already planning for it. Spring is my favourite season - it’s a season of hope, rebirth and renewed beauty - I particularly love this quote, as it’s so true!

“Spring adds new life and new beauty to all that is.”

Plus I was born midway through (May), so I have a particular attachment to this season. I also think it’s the most beautiful season - the flowers are out in bloom and everyone just seems so much happier and lighter, as they seemingly dust the cobwebs off after winter’s heavy cold weather. I’ve certainly been dusting off a few proverbial cobwebs and have begun prepping our terrace for spring. I think I’ve been to the garden centre two or three times in the past couple of weeks (Truffaut can take all my money). We picked up some new terracotta pots and I also purchased these on my own last weekend. I bought some Ranunculus flowers (one of my favourites) and have planted them in a window box. I’ve also planted Dahlias, coriander and chives from seeds - fingers crossed they grow as I’m very rusty in the gardening department. I don’t think I’ve planted anything from seed since I was a child, but I cannot tell you how much joy it’s bringing me!

I was lucky enough to grow up with gardens and remember scrabbling around in dungarees with a little gardening shovel from a young age. We had a greenhouse in one of our first houses and I distinctly remember picking strawberries from the shrubs my parents had planted. But the last few years (Covid is of course a culprit), I’ve been trying any way I can to bring a little more nature into my daily life and am thoroughly enjoying creating a terrace ‘garden’. I’m aiming to fill it with as many flowers and herbs as I can fit on it. Of course, I dream of having a real garden one day (one with beds and a lawn), where I can create a sustainable kitchen garden filled with fruit, veg and herbs, plus plant rows of my favourite plants and flowers. Until then, wish me luck with my seeds!

Thinking about spring also extends to my wardrobe and home, and there are a few things that I currently have my eye on. I know it’s popular (I’ve seen so many people in it), but I still love this oversized teddy jacket; these chunky hooped earrings will go with everything; I love this toile bag, which is perfect style for spring and summer and although I’m very loyal to my wallet, I also love this gorgeous tapestry card holder. For the home, I’m currently coveting this little wavy rimmed vase and this watering can has my name on it!
