THE BEST WARDROBE BASICS TO INVEST IN FOR SUMMER 2020

Neutral summer basics

During lockdown I wore a rotating combination of about five items of clothing. It’s something I’ve known for a while, but this experience confirmed it - I love clothes and I love a good choice, but I’m much happier when I have a highly curated, cherry-picked selection of basics that I can return to again and again. These are items that are mainly neutral and monochrome and therefore go with everything.

Upon returning to Paris and going through my wardrobe, I felt a little overwhelmed looking at the colours and patterns, as I unpacked my summer wardrobe. Although I still love many of these items, most I feel have now become redundant and I’m endeavouring to pair back my wardrobe to mainly neutrals. It’s been an ongoing process for a while, but after the 2.5 months of confinement, where I spent almost every day in the same pair of jeans and top, it’s been one of my missions since I’ve returned home to Paris, besides redecorating my new apartment: to finally clear out items that I no longer wear. So I’ve been Marie Kondo-ing my wardrobe more ruthlessly of late. I want the items in my wardrobe to bring me only joy and not the stress of having too many things that just don’t pair well together. I’m a big believer that the right clothes, as with the objects you fill your home with and the people you surround yourself with, really can be mood-boosting and make your daily life more enjoyable.

I don’t know about you, but in light of the last few months, I’ve found the need to have less stuff in my life. I think many of us have realised how little we really need to make us happy and that less is indeed more. So I’ve created an edit of summer basics that will help you create a capsule wardrobe this season that can be worn year after year and will hopefully bring you only joy!
