THE LITTLE BLACK SUMMER DRESS

In my most recent article for Who What Wear UK, I heralded the LBD as a key piece to take on holiday and I still stand by my statement. While white is of course airier and reflects the heat, if you’re like me - or just sensible as you should be by now with your skin and lathering it in high factor sunscreen - you’ll find that your white dress doesn’t stay white for very long. Unfortunately sun cream does have the capacity to stain, leaving an unsightly yellowish tint to the edges of straps and the neckline, which (as I’ve discovered numerous times), is very hard to get rid of. Here’s where the LBD comes in handy. If any of the cream does transfer, you can easily brush it off with a wet flannel (tried and approved), black is of course also slimming - perfect for hiding any extra weight accumulated through a little too much holiday enjoyment, it’s elegant and it’s versatile - wear during the day for sightseeing with Tevas or dress it up in the evening with barely there sandals, bright red lippy (I usually go for Lady Danger by Mac or Phyto Rouge, number 40 by Sisley) and a small bag - I’m holding one by English-Chinese brand, Wicker Wings.

Go for preferably a linen or cotton style like this &Other Stories version, which will be much cooler when temperatures soar. It also won’t show up sweat, which in the height of summer in the city - this week is going to hit 42 degrees on Thursday in Paris - will be very necessary.
