HOW TO WEAR THE PASTEL SUIT FOR SPRING

I’ve never been a big wearer of pastels and my daily wardrobe verges on the side of minimal. But as soon as winter recedes and spring is in the air, it makes me want to wear more colour and of course pastels are this season's palette. I don't religiously follow fashion, but there’s something just so joyful about wearing powder colours after the doom and gloom of a very long grey winter!

This suit had mixed reactions on my Instagram Stories when I posted it, but it’s not as shocking when you put it on as it might be in the photos. And as a follower kindly pointed out to me, it reminds one of this look by Victoria Beckham, which is no bad thing! Wearing a pink or lilac pastel suit is statement-making, so unless you really want to stick out like a sore thumb when you walk down the street - of course, this indeed might be your aim - I would advise styling it more subtly, especially somewhere like Paris where staring is a national sport. Here are my tips on how to dress it down a little so it’s not as loud, for say; a more casual event such as lunch or even in the office.

Team with a pair of plimsoles (or white sneakers)

They will add a casual twist to a look that is famed for smarter occasions. I love Supergas, but it'll also suit this season's big ugly trainer trend - I'm thinking the chunky Balenciagas or Filas (still available).

Wear a white tee underneath

Unless you're wearing a suit to dress for an event in the evening (where a silk camisole might be best), I think they look best with a white tee underneath. It's clean and casual.

Top with a beige/ neutral trench in colder weather

Layer with a beige trench when the weather is a little cooler, which will also keep the overall look a little more casual and on-trend.

Pair with a white or camel cross body

Again, let the suit do the talking and pair with a neutral hangbag, unless you're at fashion week and you want to be snapped by street style photographers.

Accesorise with a larger gold pendant to dress up the T Shirt

There's nothing wrong with adding a bit of bling, but again keep it simple and only use it to add a little colour to a white tee - find a pendant that's gold and contemporary

Keep make-up to a minimum unless you’re going to wear this look out to an event in the evening

Go for a nude lip during the day. And if you are going to wear it out at night, I would add a bright red lip.
