Style Edit: Jeans

If you’ve been following me for a while, you might have noticed that I wear jeans almost every day. A good pair of jeans is the foundation of my wardrobe, as I find them easy to wear - with everything and for any occasion. And most importantly, I feel good in jeans. Over the years I’ve received many questions about which jeans I wear, I’ve written about jean styles for Who What Wear UK and in my book, Practising Parisienne as it also happens to be a key French wardrobe piece. So I like to think I’ve become something of a connoisseur, not least just because I’ve tried and worn a multitude of different styles and brands (I’m very lucky that I get offered jeans to try due to my job) and as such, have found the cut that best suits my style and figure.

My go-to cut is straight-legged and high-waisted as I think this is the most flattering style for the female body: the high-waist elongates the legs, accentuates and slims the waist, and the straight-legged silhouette balances out the hips. The high-waist is also the most timeless style and the best for creating that peachy behind that many of us seek. I have various high-waisted, straight legged styles in my wardrobe, but if I had to choose my top three denim brand styles, they would be 1. Goldsign ‘High-Rise Benefit’ (they’re the style I’m wearing in the photos - here they are in a blue cropped style & grey style) - this is probably the jean style I wear the most and I have them in three washes - dark blue, light blue and a washed black; 2. Citizens of Humanity ‘Charlotte’ high-rise (here’s a light denim wash) - I also have a least three of this style in different blue washes, and finally 3. the Agolde ‘Pinched Waist’ style as it is the tightest on the waist.

I’ve had a lot of problems with jean styles in the past as they would fit my hips and bum, but gape at the waist - luckier all these style fit me on the waist too, and the Agolde pinch waist even more so - these jeans are great for an evening out for example, if you want your look to feel a bit more pulled together, but perhaps less so if you are going for an all you can eat pizza lunch! Other great brands/styles are obviously Levi’s 501s (the most worn by the French); Totême - the reigning brand for elevated basics that also do a very good straight cut in various washes and colours; J Brand (I have a pair of Jules High Rise in black that I wear regularly), I recently tried the Topanga style by Rails, which has become another staple; Frame, Mother and L’Agence are good higher-end brands for jeans, plus Arket, & Other Stories, Everlane and Madewell have some good affordable styles. I’ve included all of these in my edits, plus some slim, tapered and patterned styles. Hope you find them useful! xx
