Summer Florals with Kate Spade

Photographed in Jardin du Luxembourg, Paris

Ah Mexico. The colourful, exotic country, home to the art of Frida Khalo, tequila, tacos, chilli, piñatas, cacti and fiestas! I’ve had a love affair with the Hispanic country for as long as I can remember, ever since I visited Cancun as a teenager before university. Which isn’t even the real Mexico, but it gave me a small taste that left me wanting more. It’s also home to my favourite cuisine and cocktail – I can make a mean chilli margarita.

Kate Spade’s summer collection celebrates celebrations, and where better than Mexico to look for inspiration?! Wearing this fun and flirty Casa Flora Flutter Sleeve Dress certainly made me feel like I was celebrating something, even if it was just dusk in Paris, in summer - when the city is bathed in golden light.

I think I’ve stated a few times that I don’t often wear patterns, or haven’t in the past anyway. But as I’ve gotten older I’ve become more adventurous and playful with my wardrobe. Try it you might like it! ;) And nothing screams summer more than a bright floral motif, especially one that takes its influence from a country where it seems to be always summer.

Coincidentally I’ve just arrived in the US for the summer, starting off in New York, so this post couldn’t be more timely. Although I shot it in le Jardin de Luxembourg, one of Paris’ prettiest parks last week just as the sun was setting behind the Torre Eiffel, I can imagine twirling in this beautiful floral dress on warm balmy New York nights. Can’t you?
