There’s not much that makes me happier than waking up to bright blue skies, the warm sun streaming in through the windows and being able to step outside in a summer dress. I’m a spring baby, but summer has always been my season. I love the heat – it might have something to do with the fact that I was born in Sharjah near Dubai to a Californian mother, who grew up on the beach in San Diego. I inherited the love of the heat and it seeped into my DNA from a very early age, despite growing up in the temperamental weather of the UK - perhaps why I moved south in search of warmer climes. Weather permitting - I spent my summers on my bike, climbing trees or in the south of France and Spain, happily running around in nothing more than bikini bottoms.
Summer is officially on the horizon - tomorrow the 21st of June marks the start of the new season, midsummer and the summer solstice - the longest day of the year when the sun is at its most northerly and southerly points. To celebrate the occasion, I've put together a selection of my favourite dresses to aid you with your weekend lunch wardrobe and in your summer holiday packing, when all you want to do is throw on an easy breezy, light-fabric dress and run out the door to enjoy the sunshine.
So although I rarely wear dresses in winter as I don't like any rogue cold winds sneaking up my skirts, they're the main pieces of clothing that I want to wear when the temperatures rise. Below is my edit of the best day dresses on sale right now - styles to suit all budgets that can be worn during the day with Supergas or slides and dressed up in the evening with a pair of espadrilles or strappy, barely-there sandals, by the likes of the Row (budget permitting) and By Far.
